Athletic Bilbao secured their first win of the season in La Liga on Saturday, thanks to a set piece goal from Yeray Llanez.

The Basque side took the lead after just six minutes when Llanez's cross found the head of David Alaba, who nodded it into the net from close range.

Las Palmas were unable to respond and Athletic Bilbao went into half-time with a 1-0 lead.

The visitors continued to dominate the second half but could not find a way through the Las Palmas defence until the 87th minute, when Llanez slotted home from a corner kick.

The victory means that Athletic Bilbao have now won two out of their opening three games this season, while Las Palmas remain bottom of the table.

Llanez was named man of the match for his performance, which included several crucial defensive saves.

It was a well-deserved result for Athletic Bilbao, who will be hoping to build on this success as they look to secure a place in the top half of the table.
