Lens beat Angers 2-0 in Ligue 1 action on Saturday evening at Stade de France.
The match was a tense affair with both teams creating chances but failing to break the deadlock. However, Lens finally broke through in the 77th minute when a cross from the right by Kostas Mitroglou found the head of Mathieu Debuchy who headed home the equalizer.
Just three minutes later, Lens took the lead when Openda Fofana fired home a shot from just outside the box. The goal was his first for the club and came after he had been substituted into the game earlier in the second half.
Angers were unable to find a way back into the game and were ultimately relegated to fourth place in the table as a result of their defeat.
Overall, it was a good performance from Lens, who now have a chance to secure a top-four finish and potentially qualify for Europe's elite competition next season.
In contrast, Angers will be disappointed with their defeat and will need to improve their performances if they want to avoid relegation this season.
