The Rennes FC team has clinched their place in the Europa League group stage after defeating Nice F.C. in the round 30 fixture at the Stade de France on Sunday.
The French champions, who had previously been eliminated from the competition by Villarreal and Real Madrid, have now secured their spot for the next round of the competition, which will be played on March 27th.
In the first half of the match, Rennes had already scored three goals to take a comfortable lead over Nice. The game was then levelled when Rennes's star player, Yannick Bolasie, scored his second goal of the night, making it a 2-2 draw at halftime.
In the second half, Rennes continued to dominate the game and scored another two goals to seal victory. They then celebrated their win with a celebration that saw players of both teams hug each other.
Manager Didier Deschamps praised his team's performance, saying: "We were very unlucky not to score but we did our best to do so. It's great to get into the Europa League group stage."
Rennes FC is now set to face Villarreal in the next round of the competition, which takes place on March 28th. The result of this match could determine the fate of the French champions and potentially see them reach the final of the competition.
